I might. It really would depend on what it looked like in the end. I like to write on my books in the margins (terrible habit, I know) and I don't suppose that would give the same sort of pleasure. But I could probably adapt. I can see it would be useful for going on holiday, or on research trips, where you could cut down a lot on the weight of your packing. I think it really would depend on the readability of the page, and certainly the more it actually resembled a book, the better.

Your comments seem to echo what is resonating from publishers - non-fiction and academic books look like they will be the first to be integrated into digital printing and increased collaborative access.

The possibilities of digital reading devices (e-readers) could replace the standard book - using an e-reader for fiction , poetry etc., allows to have both the physical and the digital choices.

The e-readers emulate print (e-paper), can hold a large number of books, music, access the web and in the not too distant future play movies.

The design of the contents for these devices will be paramount to their success - integrating the digital world (on a digital medium) without losing the look/feel of a book. Would you consider using one of these, litlove?

I'm an academic writer and in our profession we are facing an ever greater likelihood of e-publishing as an important part of our writing future. I think the internet makes a great resource for on-line books that have specialist agendas. It's very difficult to find conventional publishers who will take the risk of producing books for very small markets and without new options becoming available for publishing, academic output will suffer.

That being said, where other more pleasurable forms of publicataion are involved - fiction, cookery books, biography, poetry, for me the book is very much part of the experience and I would be very sorry to be without it.
